MAMBA is seeking two energetic, positive, professional members of our community with interest in serving on the Board of Directors, and capacity to help take our organization to the next level. Skillsets & Experience Needed
Marketing & Communications – Help MAMBA find it’s voice, then tell the story of Morgantown’s mountain bike community, and help coordinate events byleveragingsocial media, bi-weekly newsletters, content generation, online community engagement, fundraising and promotion, graphic design, photo/video, and more.
Trail Stewardship & Volunteer Management – Help lead volunteer efforts, elevate community capacity, and build a trail stewardship movement in the Morgantown Area, using trail maintenance and construction techniques, vegetation management, hydrology and erosion control, machine operation, construction, landscaping, carpentry, stone work, volunteer coordination, equipment maintenance.
Roles & Responsibilities
• Lead development and implementation of a new initiative addressing a need of the organization and community, as defined by strategic planning and board consensus
• Attend 75 % of standing board meetings (8-10 meetings held per year, often virtual)
• Recruit new MAMBA members, supporters, and board members
• Assist with or lead events (group rides, trail work days, socials, other events)
• Lend support to other chapter needs (e.g., attending events, mentoring new leaders, trail planning meetings, land manager communication, supporting grant writing)
• Act as an ambassador for MAMBA, help educate the community about our mission and activities
Each individual board member is expected to:
• Exemplify the joy of mountain biking and share it with others; foster a welcoming sense of community
• Know the organization’s mission, policies, programs, and needs as well as understand its collective purpose
• Prepare for, attend, and conscientiously participate in board meetings, read and understand board materials in advance of meetings
• Engage in identifying and securing the financial resources and partnerships necessary for the organization to advance its mission
• Leverage connections, networks, and resources to develop collective action in pursuit of the organization’s mission
• Participate fully in one or more committees or programmatic initiatives (can overlap with above)
• Engage in learning opportunities to better understand and serve our community
• Uphold respect, professionalism, and an open mind in all dealings in which you represent the organization – partnerships above all.
Other responsibilities of nonprofit board members
• Uphold the legal duties and laws regarding nonprofit governance
• Follow the organization’s bylaws, policies, and board resolutions
• Sign an annual conflict-of-interest disclosure and update it during the year if necessary, as well as disclose potential conflicts before meetings and actual conflicts during meetings
• Maintain confidentiality about all internal matters of the organization
